About
A group house that hosts
Locus is a group house in West Philadelphia. We host events, such as talks, dinners, game nights, and coworking, for the Effective Altruism, rationalist, and post-rationalist communities in Philadelphia. Public events go on our calendar, and if you are organizing something and need a venue, get in touch.
Cynthia and Jaime founded Locus as its master tenants and moved in in April 2026, to give these communities another anchor on the East Coast. Philadelphia sits between New York and DC at a fraction of the rent, which made it the place to build one. A locus is the place where something happens, or the point you act from. The house also sits on Locust Street.

Your turn
Host something here
The space is open to the community. If there is something you want to run, we will help you put it on and bring people.
Talks
Teach the room something. “Here’s what far-UV is and why it’s the future of disease control.” Bring slides; we have a projector.
Community events
Get people together around a shared goal. A coworking session where everyone burns down their to-do list, or a documentary night with a real discussion after.
On the calendar
Pick a date, tell us what you need, and it goes on the shared calendar for the community to find and show up to.
How much space we have
The living room seats about twelve, if everyone is cozy. The backyard is still being built out, and in theory could hold more, but it is not ready yet. Tell us what you are planning and we will sort out the room. Contact us for details.
